Sustainable Energy Communities (SECs)
ORS Energy Engineers work as Mentors in the Midlands Region and as Technical Advisors nationally on behalf of SEAI for the Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC). The SEC Network is made up of over 200 communities around Ireland that are interested in community energy. Some communities have been influencing local energy use for years, while others are thinking about it for the first time. The aim of the network is to encourage and support a national movement of SECs in every part of the country.
Together they want to:
- Be as energy efficient as possible
- Use renewable energy where workable
- Use smart energy technology
As part of the SEC programme, we are involved with organising events and workshops for community groups both regionally and nationally. The SEAI hold their annual SEC National Event in the Midlands which, as Mentors and Technical Advisors on the programme, we are very much involved in, providing training and workshops on the day. We have also presented at many events in the Midlands and have built strong relationships with county councils, PPN’s and chambers of commerce.
Strong organisation skills and collaboration are essential for an SEC to ensure that common objectives are established. In this collaboration, the whole community has a role to play – the local authority, local politicians and planners, public and private bodies, developers, businesses, energy suppliers and service providers, technical experts, educational institutions, residents associations and householders.
