ORS Named As One of the Best Workplaces in Ireland for the first time
The firm is the only engineering and surveying consultancy listed across all categories.
ORS is delighted to announce that it has been officially recognised as one of the Best Workplaces in Ireland in 2019. ORS was recognised at the 17th annual Great Place to Work Best Workplaces in Ireland awards in the Clayton Hotel on Burlington Road, Dublin on Wednesday 27th February. This is ORS’s first year to be named as a top Irish workplace, which is assessed through Great Place to Work’s robust ‘Trust Index©’ employee survey and a thorough ‘Culture Audit©’ assessment of their policies and practices.
ORS was recognised as the 25th Best Small Workplace in Ireland 2019.
Commenting on the recognition, ORS Managing Director John Brennan said ‘This is by far the most important accolade the firm has ever received. Our people are the back bone of our business. We rely on them to keep our clients and each other happy. Looking after them and creating a great place to work is of utmost importance to me.’
John continued ‘Flexible working, inclusion, personal development and wellbeing are at the centre of how we run our business. This recognition from Great Place to Work® Ireland has helped to strengthen our determination and drive to maintain this approach. We hope that this acknowledgment will allow us to continue attracting the very best people to our team.’
“With a record high of more than 2.28 million now employed in Ireland, and unemployment at 5.7%, we’re on the cusp of the oft-cited ‘full employment’. That might serve to explain why this year, the number of employees assessed by Great Place to Work in Ireland has more than doubled. They’ve given us a clear sense of their workplace experience and the workplace practices that Irish organisations of every size are putting in place to drive that experience.” said John Ryan, CEO of Great Place to Work® Ireland.
“Securing a place on the list of Best Workplaces in Ireland is a greater achievement than ever before. These organisations have opened up to us, giving us a deep understanding of the culture that drives their performance. Even though we’re dealing with an unprecedented level of economic and political uncertainty, these Irish organisations are ready to deal with the challenges: they have built agility and plasticity into the core of their workplaces, developing the high levels of trust that are critical for adaptability. We have witnessed great confidence and high expectations across the whole employee population: but while they’re demanding a lot from their employers, they’re giving it back through high productivity, innovation, and performance. They want to work for organisations who are socially and environmentally responsible, and are voting with their feet for those that aren’t. They demand that management differentiate performance and reward in kind. They refuse to accept low standards of communication, recognition, and management: but they go above and beyond for those that deliver. And that’s what allows these organisations to outperform the rest. Today’s workplace is a partnership, creating the future in tandem. It’s inclusive and has diversity at its core. It’s a really exciting place to be, and I’d like to congratulate each and every organisation that has achieved the goal of creating truly sustainable, high trust workplaces all across Ireland. We all deserve a Great Place to Work: and now we can have it!”

About Great Place to Work® and the Assessment Process
Great Place to Work Ireland is part of a global network of culture consultants, with offices in 48 countries using an established methodology to publish lists at country, regional, and global levels. The best known of these is the Fortune 100 list of Best Companies to Work For in the United States. Our media partner in Ireland is The Irish Times, who develop the annual Best Workplaces Special Report.
The key defining feature of a great workplace is the level of trust that exists within it. From an employee’s viewpoint, the definition of a great workplace is one where you trust the people you work with, you have great pride in what you do, and you enjoy the people you work with. The Great Place to Work Institute assesses the policies and practices in place in organisations under nine key areas: Inspiring, Speaking, Listening, Caring, Developing, Thanking, Hiring, Celebrating, and Sharing. They then benchmark these practices against other organisations in that country. The second key component of the assessment is an anonymous Trust Index survey that gathers the perceptions of employees under five dimensions: Credibility, Respect, Fairness, Pride, and Camaraderie. Finally, there is an in-depth qualitative analysis of open ended comments from employees.
